The Gaming Safe Space (GSS) Initiative is a program in which Friendly Local Game Stores can advance or support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in their establishments. By fostering an inclusive environment in game stores, we believe we can grow the gaming community and create a more welcoming and supportive environment for current gamers. Supporting GSS means saying that everyone is welcome at our table.
The Safe Space Retailer Kit is the first step in the initiative and contains materials for game stores to help inform their patrons and demonstrate their commitment to DEI in their space. The kit also includes enamel pins and buttons that retailers are encouraged to use for fundraising to support local nonprofit organizations.

The kit will also include buttons and enamel pins which can be given away or sold for charitable fundraising.
Tabletop Gaymers is excited to partner with the Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA) in creating this program for retail stores. The program will provide resources and materials for “Friendly Local Game Stores” (FLGS) to develop and promote their equity and nondiscrimination policies, provide safe spaces for diverse patrons, and create an inclusive atmosphere that is welcoming to all.
The launch of the program (expected in Q1 2023) will consist of:

GamingSafeSpace.org. This website will have additional material for both patrons and retailers. All materials in the SSIR Starter Kit will be made available through the site for free, released under a Creative Commons “Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike” license, for any retailer who wishes to modify or manufacture the material directly for charitable or noncommercial use.
